LATIN AMERICA: FACING THE CHALLENGES
This year sees the 11th anniversary of the election of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. These countries along with Bolivia and Nicaragua are at the forefront of the incredible changes that are sweeping the continent.

From the Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela to resistance in Colombia and Mexico. From Cuba’s experience of socialism and the fight against the US blockade. From the struggles for the rights of indigenous peoples, to the struggle to finally control its own destiny – Latin America is changing.

Yet today Latin America is facing serous challenges. The United States is again trying to reassert its position in the region. This is most seriously evidenced by the recent coup in Honduras and the expansion of the US military presence in Colombia.

Now more than ever international solidarity is essential to help defend the gains already made.
